- Q: Why do I have to be so concerned with my fuel filtration?
- A: Strict vehicle emissions standards put in place by the U.S. government have added to the cost and complexity of the fuel injection systems on modern diesel powered pickup trucks. The higher pressures and closer tolerances of these fuel injection systems are
far less tolerant of dirt, water, and other contaminants in fuel compared to older mechanically injected diesels. Adding to tougher emissions standards, is the U.S. government's mandated Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD) fuel. This new fuel which replaced Diesel No.2, has far less lubricating properties,
causing increased fuel injector and injection pump wear and failure. ULSD has less BTU's (less energy=less power), and is hydro-treated which removes the anti-oxidants causing the fuel to "spoil" sooner. These are just some of the important reasons why you should be concerned about your fuel filtration.
- Q: Isn’t my stock fuel filter enough?
- A: For extended life, modern diesel fuel injectors need filtration well below 5 microns. The “Big 3” American pickup truck manufacturers’ fuel filtration is marginal at best, and may filter down to 10 microns.
Their filters have less filter media than our filters, have a lower fuel flow, are more expensive than our filters, and can only filter ¼ to ½ the amount of fuel that a XX-Fuel filter can.
- Q: Why do I need fuel filtration down to 2 microns?
- A: Because it's the particles of grit and dirt that are 3 to 10 microns in size that do the most damage to the high pressure common rail (HPCR) fuel injected engine. Particles that range in size from 10 microns up to 30 microns tend to plug the orofices
(spray holes) in your fuel injectors, interrupting the fuel flow and spray patterns they were designed for, causing engine inefficiency and loss of power. These same particles will bind with oil or fuel to create a sludge that can bake on the inside of the engine and fuel system when temperatures rise,
causing even more engine inefficiency, additional power loss, which will lead to premature failure.
Particles that range in size from 3 to 10 microns are small enough to work their way in between bearing surfaces causing highly accelerated wear. These particles that are forced through your fuel system at pressures ranging from 24,000psi to 30,000psi will also cause serious erosion damage to
fuel injector tips and high pressure pump (CP3) internals also leading to premature part failure and a very expensive repair bill!
- Q: Can I run Bio-diesel through a XX-Fuel Diesel Fuel Filtration system?
- A: B-20 (Up to 20% Bio-Diesel) is currently acceptable. We are currently testing with higher percentages of Bio-diesel and will keep our customers updated on our findings.
- Q: What about companies who make the claim that their system "Polishes" your fuel?
- A: The only thing getting "Polished" in these recirculating systems, is the inside of the fuel tank! The fuel they deliver to the engine is no cleaner than what a XX-Fuel System delivers.
These systems require electricity, have moving parts, are prone to failure, and cost up to 3 times more than a XX-Fuel System.
- Q: My truck is still under warranty, if my fuel injectors or my high pressure fuel pump fails, won't my warranty cover the repair?
- A: Probably not! First of all, if the manufacturer can attribute the failure to dirty fuel or a clogged fuel filter, your warranty may get DENIED!
Secondly, your fuel injectors and high pressure fuel pump are considered "wear items" which in itself may be cause for a warranty claim denial.
- Q: Will a XX-Fuel Diesel Fuel Filtration System affect my factory or extended warranty?
- A: A properly installed and maintained XX-Fuel Diesel Fuel Filtration System will not negatively affect your factory or extended warranty.
- Q: Some companies use either fixed magnets or electromagnets and claim they will re-arrange the carbon atoms in my fuel, what should I make of products like these?
- A: Well, if it sounds “too good to be true”, if it sounds like “hocus-pocus”,
IT PROBABLY IS! BE SKEPTICAL!
